Quick guide for customers

Choosing home care is a big step. This guide helps you understand what to expect from your carer — and what they’ll expect from you — to build a positive, respectful care relationship.

1. Care Request and Care Profile

Your care profile should accurately reflect the support you or your loved one needs. This includes:

  • Medical conditions and medication
  • Personal care, mobility, and continence
  • Nutritional needs
  • Behavioural notes
  • Night-time needs
  • Equipment used at home

If your carer feels the care details aren’t accurate or updated, they may request changes. Having an up-to-date care profile ensures your carer works within their expertise and keeps everyone safe.

Failing to maintain a current care profile may pause or affect your access to services.

2. Home Environment

Your carer must be provided with:

  • A clean, private bedroom
  • Secure space for belongings
  • Fresh towels and bedding
  • Properly working essential appliances (e.g., cooker)

Before a placement begins, the carer should be informed of:

  • Who else lives in the home
  • Any CCTV in or around the property

Carers support only the person listed in the care request.

3. Breaks and Time-Off

Breaks should be discussed and agreed on before care begins. Though carers are not employed by No1 Healthcare, we encourage allowing breaks in line with government guidance. All break arrangements are directly agreed upon between you and your carer.

4. Night-Time Support

For live-in care, carers can generally assist with up to 2 night-time interruptions, averaging 15 minutes each. If more support is needed (e.g., waking night care), we’ll help you explore other care options.

5. Specialist Medical Care

Our private carers do not provide specialist medical care. Tasks they are not permitted to perform include:

  • STOMA or PEG care
  • Wound management
  • Oxygen, BiPAP/CPAP, or ventilation support
  • Injections or glucose testing via finger prick
  • Controlled or covert drug administration
  • Pessary, enema, or suppository use
  • Epilepsy requiring close medical oversight
  • Acute mental health or substance misuse care
  • Any actions considered a Deprivation of Liberty (e.g., locking doors)

6. Respect and Dignity

Carers deserve the same respect and dignity you expect in return. They have the right to privacy and a safe, abuse-free environment. If a carer experiences mistreatment, they may leave the placement immediately, and we will support them in doing so.

For any concerns, questions, or changes during care, our No1 Healthcare Private Carers team is here to assist.

Together, we’re making compassionate, personalised home care more accessible for families like yours.
